The following reports were gathered from the District Offices in an effort to centralize information about hurricane damage.
Baypines: Atmore FUMC – Extensive damage was done to sanctuary. The organ and Steinway piano were destroyed. No estimate has been done as of yet.
Flomaton FUMC – Extensive damage was done to all class rooms on the first and second floors and the library resource room. There was extensive leakage.
Demopolis: The Demopolis District Pastors have reported minimal damage to churches and parsonages. Dixon Mills UMC lost a back strip of their tin roof which was already damaged from Ivan last year. Grove Hill UMC lost the canopy at the front of the sanctuary with the columns that supported it. Other than that, we have two broken windows.
Dothan: As far as we know now there was no significant damage to Dothan District churches or parsonages due to the hurricane. If you have damage to your home, church, or community that you have not yet reported, please do so immediately. If your church and/or community are willing to put together a clean-up crew to help those places hardest hit, please contact the district office (334/792-4259) or our district Disaster Coordinator, Marquis Wingard: home (334/585-0353) or cell (334/726-4744) or by email at MWingard000@centurytel.net.
Marianna/Panama City: All damage we have had reported so far has been very small. We do have four work teams who are in place to respond to the areas hit the hardest.
Mobile: No damage to report.
Pensacola: Numerous churches in the Pensacola District sustained superficial damage as a result of Hurricane Dennis. The majority of these churches were located in Santa Rosa County and in northern Escambia County, Florida.
God was very gracious in sparing the Pensacola area the kind of damage to our church buildings that was brought by Ivan. There were numerous homes of church members that did sustain damage.
Our prayers and assistance will be extended to these families. Any help and assistance you may provide should be coordinated through our Conference disaster center, 1-866-340-1956. -David Chunn
